Awards

October 30th, 2006

Welcome to the FFE Awards Page.

Here you will find a list of any websites, designers, books or software that may have received an award. Not all awards are good though, we will be giving out awards for worst design or bad software etc.

GOLD - Good Award Gold Award.
This award is given out for Good Design either in our Podcasts or Reviews. Even if we reference several good sites in a Podcast only 1 is ever awarded the overall FFE Good Design Gold Award. The recipients of the first 2 of these awards have already been selected in an upcoming interview and review. If you know of any sites that you would like to nominate email them to david@fromthefrontend.co.uk

Black - Bad design Black Mark
Watch out for the Black awards as they signify an award for bad design or software. This is one award you will want to avoid. The black mark is usually given out to major websites that should have the experience or resources to produce a good site but have been either lazy, sloppy or not put a lot of thought into their design.

Jan 2007
GOLD - Good Award

Award for best use of Microformats
< d.Construct 2006 >
The d.Construct 2006 website is an excellent showcase for the capabilities of Microformats. Although one of the first sites to adopt the new techique it is still one of the best implementations out there. This award was bestowed by James Myers during his Microformats interview.

Black Mark - Black Award

A Black Mark for poor HTML and CSS
< Daily Star >
The Daily Star website features such horrors as table based layout and fails even HTML 4 standards with a massive 108 errors on the homepage. This award was bestowed by James Myers during his Microformats interview.

November 2006
GOLD - Good Award

Award for best use of new technology on a business website
< ZDNet UK >
With it’s extensive use of new technologies such as Tag clouds, Microformats and Web 2.0 community features ZDNet fully deserves this award.

Special thanks to Reinette De Villiers for creating the gold and black award icons for FFE.
