Molly’s Geek Dinner

I’ve just come back from my first ever Geek Dinner and feeling pretty chuffed. I got to meet some of my idols and other great Geek minds.
For me stars in the IT industry are bigger than sports/music/movie celebs so imagine my delight at meeting the 1st lady of the web - Molly. I was trying to prepare myself not to expect too much as no one could live up to the reputation Molly has (take that as you will). To my surprise Molly was even better in person. Larger than life and with great charisma and presence (and her photos don’t do her justice, she is the FireFox
). On top of that is of course that great mind that Writes article after article of pure genius. Despite her celebrity she was incredibly approachable and friendly and I managed to keep my foot out of my mouth for a full 15min conversation.
Above is a picture of me with Molly. I think she could have held my attention all evening. Although, I’m sad that she’s leaving tomorrow, at least it won’t be too long before she graces the UK with he presence as she’s returing in January. Until then I will avidly read her new column in DotNet magazine (.net).
Also attending was The King of Webbie Podcasts Paul Boag. Another very approachable and friendly guy and some one you can tell fully believes what they preach on their website. Look out for his interview on FEE (From the Front End) soon. I unfortunately missed my photo-op with Paul.

There was also good representation from Yahoo with about 6 staff there. Jimmy pictured above with Mike, has just come over from working on the Yahoo homepage in the US (San Francisco) to work on new projects in the UK (London) branch. I also met Tom who decided to label himself “bob”. Whether this was to avoid confusion with another Tom that was there or so that we’d never for get BOB/TOM I’m not to sure.
The other Tom asked a good question “When do you think using Tables for layout will become as unacceptable as sexism and racism” to which Molly Responded “Hopefully before I die” - classic :).
Molly also revealed a scandal! She’d been in the same bed as Norm (king of the britons)! However, this gossip wasn’t as juciy as it sounds as it wasn’t at the same time (Reference was to the hospitality of Jeremy Keith and he spare room in Brighton).
Got to meet another Blog owner I subscribe to - Caroline “Caz” Mockett. Another facinating person that I, unfortunately, only got to spend a few minutes with.
Special thanks to Ian Forrester for organising everything. Definitely will be checking out BBC Backstage as he suggested.
Anyway I’m too tired and drunk too much wine to write any further.
